Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid Aesthetics; Aesthetic surgeries performed on the eyelids are referred to as ‘Blepharoplasty’ in medical literature. The eyelids have special significance due to being the thinnest structure of the body, protecting very delicate structures, constantly moving, and being easily affected by environmental factors.
Signs of aging first appear around the age of 30 with wrinkles around the eyes and the formation of eye bags. Over time, the tension in the eyelids decreases, and sagging and puffiness occur due to the pressure exerted outward by the fat tissues in the deep parts.
Eyelid surgery is not only performed for aesthetic reasons but also for congenital or acquired eyelid drooping or sagging, or due to skin tumors on the eyelids. In addition to cosmetic gains, aesthetic eyelid surgeries can be planned at the clinic of Associate Professor Dr. Gürkan KAYABAŞOĞLU for functional reasons, as they increase the visual field, make it easier to open the eyes, and facilitate many important daily activities such as reading books.
Why is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
The position of the muscles of individuals to undergo eyelid surgery should be evaluated very well. If there is brow ptosis alongside the signs of aging, brow lifting surgery should definitely be considered. Eyelid aesthetic surgeries performed without correcting brow ptosis can result in a further drop in the eyebrows, preventing a good aesthetic outcome.
What is the Recovery Process Like?
After aesthetic eyelid surgery, some swelling and redness may occur around your eyes. While these swellings decrease and turn into bruises on the 2nd and 3rd days, they usually disappear, and your eyes almost return to a normal appearance by the first week. After the operation, eye drops along with antibiotics, painkillers, and anti-edema drops will be prescribed to you by your doctor. It is recommended to limit activities that may cause eye dryness, such as reading books, using computers, or watching television during the first week following aesthetic eyelid surgery. By the end of the first week, you will generally feel well enough to resume normal activities, but you should avoid heavy exercise and activities for 4 weeks.
